We had a 276 when I started here and it was my first introduction to bailing.

We use it for both straw and alfalfa and yep, they will make a heavy bale if you want it. I've had a 276 baler for about 12 years now, use it every year for 7-800 bales. You can overload the feeding tines and bend them you REALLY start slamming the hay through it.but you can make nice heavy solid bales all day long and do it at a respectable clip Keep your knotter, flywheel, and most importantly your tine feeder chains maintained and you will be fine. Things must be kept adjusted right, such as flywheel clutch, cross feed system, and knotter. I think the 276 was a better baler than the 320, although the 320 did have higher capacity. We used to make 65-70 lb hay bales with it. We used to have a 276 and it was a good baler. It's pretty easy to produce 'banana' shaped bales with the older balers, particularly in varying conditions. The newer cross feeding systems are also better at making a nicer looking bale, particularly when the windrow size varies a lot. But, if the baler has been well maintained, they can still do a decent job, especially if you don't push it too hard. The newer balers (565, 575 ) and newer have a much more reliable cross feeding system, IMO.

That was probably the weakest part of the older balers.

They won't 2000 for it and looks to be in decent shape too. Was looking around on the Internet and ran across what seems like a good deal on a new holland 276 square baler.
